Why Santiago is the best possible destination for DrupalCamp 2025

You are about to experience the ASMR of Spanish cities; the best place to host the DrupalCamp and which, besides this unique event, will offer you a sea of possibilities and activities in your leisure time.

But is this pure marketing and hyperboles? No! If you are food lovers, this is your city. If you are nature lovers, this is your destination! If, on the other hand, you are culture lovers, you have chosen the right place. If you consider yourselves spiritual lovers, all roads have led you to Compostela. And if you are tech lovers, well, what can we say, we are thinking directly of you.

Santiago is a unique tourist, university, and living enclave; it is a compact city and easy to walk around (we won't say it's flat, but its slopes are neither the Angliru nor the Kilimanjaro). It is such that, wherever you are, you will reach the destination you want in 10 minutes: from the historic area of the city (here we call it the "old town") to the most modern area (let's call it "Ensanche" or "new area"), from the university campus to the Alameda, from Plaza de Galicia to Plaza Roja... everything is 10 vertiginous minutes away. Zero stress! Maybe that's the secret of local friendliness...

But if you like nature, then you can make those trips from park to park, effortlessly, as Santiago is a city that fluidly connects green spaces. So much so that you can traverse ecological corridors like the Alameda Park, Bonaval, Belvís and Carlomagno, or the Paseo del Río Sarela and the Galeras Park, for example.

Plaza del Obradoiro, monumental heart

From the compostelan locus amoenus, we move to the beautiful historic center full of squares and emblematic buildings. And if there is one place that embodies this, it is the Plaza del Obradoiro, the monumental heart of Santiago, surrounded by four majestic buildings, each representing a fundamental pillar in the history and formation of the city: religion, politics, university, and hospitality. These are the Cathedral of Santiago, the Pazo de Raxoi (city hall), the Colegio de San Xerome (rectorate of the university), and the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos (former pilgrims' hospital turned into a National Parador). This ground zero, essential in any visit to our city, then weaves a tangle of streets, alleys, and medieval lanes that will surprise you with each secret they hide: the night shadow of the pilgrim, the passage under the cathedral, the hidden doors with Templar symbolism... Not to mention the churches and monasteries or the Mercado de Abastos, a fundamental stop with much foundation for food lovers (for something Galician gastronomy has the reputation that precedes it).

And since we know that what's on your mind is the issue of rain... well, if it rains, let it rain. Pay no attention to weather forecasts until 24-48 hours before (spoiler: they almost always fail with more anticipation). And know that in summer it refreshes and is appreciated, besides the Galician stone is enhanced and beautified with water. On the other hand, the city with or without rain is one of the safest in Spain, so you can come without fear in that regard. Combined with the quality of life, the prices (despite tourism, they are not abusive), and the university and pilgrim atmosphere, you will find a city to enjoy in every sense.

That DrupalCamp 2025 is held in Santiago de Compostela is no coincidence... it's well-programmed karma! Because yes, it is the end of the Camino, but also the beginning of great ideas. Santiago not only smells of incense and empanada but also of technology and innovation. The city hosts important companies in the sector, and its tech ecosystem does not stop growing with new initiatives, projects, and startups, fostering an environment conducive to the exchange of knowledge.

In summary, Santiago de Compostela is a welcoming and vibrant city that will offer you a unique experience with a mix of history, culture, party, nature, and a professional and business atmosphere.
